Monday the 13th

Hi Everyone!

As we worked much of the time on blocking scenes with the Workhouse Children (5 students) and Fagin's Boys (5 students) this last Monday (making great progress), I will not be incorporating those students into practice on Monday the 13th. Stay tuned, more practices will be coming up. It is best to work in smaller groups over time and then bring it all together. Thank you!

ALL lines are to be memorized by THIS Monday! Monday the 13th!
Scripts will be used to record entrances/exits, actions, etc. however, you should not depend on it for lines!
(Fagin's Boys, when we come back together and are working your scenes - lines and actions will go hand in hand! I have no doubt, you'll be quick at learning both!)

If you haven't had your picture taken - this is the day! PLEASE refer to earlier post about what to wear!

Be sure to pack homework, a book, or quiet activity for downtime!

We will be working VOLUME, character development, entrances/exits and blocking for various scenes.

Notes after 02-06

I heard a lot of good things about yesterday!
-Helpfulness and teamwork setting up and taking down!
-The Crew Members made productive headway into learning their departments!
-Lots of character development & action - thoughts, conversations, and practices!
-Effort going into accents!
-Encouraging each other on volume!
 AND SO MUCH MORE!  Let's keep up the good work & encourage each other on!

NOTES:

-IF your script is showing signs of wear and tear - PLEASE tape it ASAP! Packing Tape works great! If you don't have packing tape - I plan to bring a roll on Monday!

-Thank you Students and Parents for asking about hair cuts! This is important for historical accuracy as well as creating the look of each character. Miss Kristin is helping us decide on hair cut answers. Please have patience in responses, in the hair styling attempts at practice, and in the deciding process. I know this can be a tough area due to personal style/preference - this is a time to use kind words, ask polite questions, and be encouraging to each other! We are in a stage play and we are in this together!

-Attend Practice with your accent! The accent should be apart of your lines!                                     If you have questions or changes seem needed - ASK - be ready to give an example and try it out.  On Monday, Brenton may grab some of you to work 1:1 with the focus on annunciation and clarity of words with an accent.

-USE VOLUME at ALL times when reading/reciting your lines! Practice at home! Make it a family event! Have a family member stand across the room from you - can they hear your line(s) clearly and distinctly at a loud volume?
-Find a decibel meter on your smartphone or tablet!

Tips - try to say the words/sentences along with the video. This will help you get a feel for the accent. It might seem silly, but repetition is a VERY good thing! Make notes in your script or on a separate slip of paper that you think will help your accent, memory, or character.

 -These videos will be more helpful for Oliver Twist roles that are upper class characters speaking with British accents.

Today's Practice

Thank you everyone for your prayers for my family during our time of grief and rejoicing. Saturday was the funeral - tears and laughter - many beautiful testimonies of God's love and faithfulness. We arrived home last night.


Mrs. Weimer's stepfather is out of the hospital and her mother is receiving care from family! Please continue to pray for their family and caregivers as they provide many hours of care and support for them as they strengthen.


Today's Practice:

I understand that the Boy's Varsity Game was canceled for today.

My plans for today are to practice with Workhouse Children and Fagin's Boys. As well, as run lines from various scenes to work character development (tone, accent,inflection).

For the guys in Basketball - I know you weren't planning on coming and I'm not sure how rides will work out for guys and siblings still going to Basketball. Read below, I understand if it doesn't work today. Any questions please text me (Director Jennie).
 If you are a character in the Workhouse or in Fagin's Den, there will be lines for you to practice today (with Director Jennie).
 If not, I'm going to encourage you (basketball guys) to take this week off BUT continue to practice at home!!!!

Miss Kristin, Mr. Caleb, and Mrs. Weimer will be rotating individuals or groups to work volume, character, etc.  These character development practices are VERY important as in the next couple weeks blocking will be a major portion of practice!

Prayers Appreciated

Dear H.I.S. Players Families,

Betty Ostema entered into the eternal arms of Jesus tonight (Wed.).

This is Becky Schimp's mother, grandmother to Bethany, Jennie, and Brenton.

Please be in prayer for the family. Funeral arrangements will be made tomorrow. We are looking at a service on Saturday (location Michigan). Prayer for safe travels is appreciated.
